Seeing his cooperation, Tao Yu felt a surge of gratitude. She clenched her fists, making sure her hands weren't cold, then carefully took hold of his calf. She felt him flinch slightly.
"Is this okay?" Tao Yu asked gently.
Yue Linze stared at her coldly, silent. She smiled and simply took off his right shoe, placing his foot on her lap. Her small, soft hands began to massage his leg with gentle but firm pressure.
Yue Linze was slightly surprised when she placed his foot on her lap. His fingers twitched.
The room fell silent. Her warm hands worked on his leg, which had been cold and stiff since the injury, making him feel, after so long, that it was still alive. He pursed his lips, a wave of drowsiness washing over him.
After the silent massage continued for a while, he relaxed completely, his eyes drooping closed. "Not entirely useless," he murmured.
Tao Yu paused, then smiled. "Mr. Yue is paying me a hefty sum, so naturally, I must earn my keep."
She hoped he could detect the sarcasm in her polite words. While the money here didn't mean much to her, it didn't mean she wasn't annoyed by his earlier actions.
"So cunning." Yue Linze's face turned cold. She didn't understand his sudden displeasure.
Tao Yu simply smiled and continued her massage. After a while, she heard Yue Linze's breathing even out. She pressed the button on the curtain remote, plunging the room into darkness.
When Yue Linze woke up, it was lunchtime. He slowly emerged from a peaceful sleep and opened his eyes to see Tao Yu sitting on the small stool, reading a book. His right foot was still resting on her lap.
Tao Yu sensed his movement immediately. She looked up and smiled. "Mr. Yue, you're awake?"
A look of scrutiny entered Yue Linze's eyes. Tao Yu felt slightly uncomfortable. "Mr. Yue?" she prompted.
Yue Linze didn't speak, just continued to stare at her. Tao Yu had to admit, he was incredibly handsome. His sharp eyebrows, bright eyes, and straight nose were enough to make anyone's heart race.
But while others might feel captivated, Tao Yu felt nervous. Just as she was about to say something, a discreet knock came from the door.
"Sir, it's lunchtime."
Yue Linze's gaze shifted, and Tao Yu breathed a silent sigh of relief. She skillfully helped him put on his socks and shoes and reached out to help him up.
"Get away," Yue Linze frowned. "You haven't washed your hands."
"...."
Oh, how dare she disgust him. Tao Yu plastered on a professional smile.
Yue Linze got up with his cane. At the door, he glanced back. "What time shall we begin this afternoon?"
Hearing him voluntarily request another session, Tao Yu's eyes lit up. "If it's alright with you, Mr. Yue, we can start at two."
"I mind. Two-ten." Yue Linze couldn't stand her eagerness.
Tao Yu almost dropped her fake smile. "...Whatever you prefer. I'll be here."
It was a shame about his leg. He'd be a champion at nitpicking at work.
Yue Linze saw her exasperated expression and snorted before leaving. At the door, he looked back at her again. She was still watching him, the smile in her eyes suggesting he was someone of great importance.
Tao Yu watched as his face suddenly hardened, and then the door slammed shut between them with a loud bang. She instantly collapsed onto the leather sofa, sprawling dramatically. She'd been sitting motionless for three hours so as not to disturb Yue Linze's sleep, and her shoulders were stiff.
But it was all worth it if it meant he was finally willing to cooperate with his rehabilitation.
Tao Yu smiled. His willingness to participate meant he was beginning to confront his pain, the first step towards resolving his anger. That meant she was closer to completing this individual task.
Her contract with the main personality clearly stated a payment of three million for each resolved personality, paid directly upon completion. Once all the personalities were integrated, there was a further ten million bonus. This money would be enough to pay off all her debts and open her own studio.
The thought of her impending wealth lessened the sting of the pay cut she'd received from Tycoon Yue. The money here was only usable in this illusory world, after all. It couldn't compare to real-world cash.
Yue Linze entered the dining room and looked impassively at the surveillance footage on his phone. Tao Yu was rolling around on the sofa, her expressions shifting wildly between dignified composure and playful antics, her face a window into a rich inner world.
The housekeeper, trailing behind Yue Linze, accidentally glimpsed the phone screen.
"...."
This Dr. Tao was truly unique. In his fifty-plus years, he'd never met someone so different in public and private. If she didn't possess some skill, the ability to keep the master in the rehabilitation room for treatment, he would have already shown her the door.
